The Jacob's Ladder of CodingWeb Programming
Dec 16th 2015
I don't spend much time on Hacker News, but I checked it out recently and saw this article about moving up and down the ladder of abstraction in computer programming.
It's worth reading just for the inventiveness involved in learning to code behind the Berlin Wall, but the author also makes some great points about getting closer to the machine and the downsides of tribalism in the programming world.
The article is quite inspiring, and made me even more determined to learn all I can about programming. To that end, I'm thinking of signing up for the Open Source Society's Computer Science course.
